Elevator Cabin

The part everybody judges the lift by, and the only part that can be changed later without touching the shaft. Which is why it should be the last decision, not the first.

Finish types

Four cabin finishes, and what each one costs in weight and upkeep.

Weight budget rules out some finishes before appearance ever enters the decision.

Standard Brushed stainless steel elevator cabin interior finish

Stainless steel

Brushed or mirror-finish steel panels. The default finish for the vast majority of lifts because it survives daily wear without looking tired.

Wood-grain laminate or veneer panels. The finish most often chosen for home elevators, where the car should feel like part of the house rather than a machine.

What it does

It carries no load. It only has to look right and stay quiet.

The steel sling around the cabin takes the weight. The cabin itself is an interior fit-out, which is why it can be replaced during a modernization without disturbing any structural part of the lift.

Specification

What we supply.

Cabin weight counts against rated load. A heavy stone floor and full-height stone walls can cost a passenger or two of capacity, so the finish is checked against the machine before it is confirmed.

Luxury elevator cabin interior with stainless steel and glass finishes
Weight is a real constraint Stone and thick glass add cabin weight, which eats into rated load. We check the balance before quoting a heavy finish.
Wall finishes Stainless, glass, stone, laminate
Flooring Granite, vinyl, PVC or steel
Ceiling LED false ceiling or plain
Lighting LED, dimmable available
Handrail One, two or three sides

When to replace

When a cabin refurbishment makes sense.

Cabin work is cosmetic, so the case for it is about perception and cost timing rather than reliability.

Timing

You are already modernising

Doing cabin work alongside a controller upgrade shares one shutdown instead of causing two.

Wear

Panels dented or laminate lifting

Common in goods and service lifts, and in residential buildings after a few moving days.

Light

Old fluorescent lighting

Replacing with LED cuts heat and consumption, and instantly changes how the car reads.

Access

No handrail or mirror

Both are accessibility items as much as comfort ones, particularly in buildings with elderly residents.

Ordering

What we need to quote this part.

Photographs of the nameplate save days. Most delays come from identifying the wrong variant, not from supply.

  • Internal car dimensions. Width, depth and height inside the existing car.
  • Current cabin photographs. All four walls, the ceiling and the floor.
  • Rated load and current cabin weight. So the new finish can be checked against capacity.
  • Finish preference. Or a reference image — we will tell you what is achievable within the weight budget.

Common questions

Before you order

What does an elevator cabin interior design cost?

Elevator cabin price is set mostly by wall finish and flooring — stainless steel sits at the low end, and full-height stone or glass at the high end. Ceiling, lighting and handrail choices move the figure less than finish does. Send the internal car dimensions and a finish preference and we return options within your weight budget.

Can the cabin be refurbished without replacing the lift?

Yes. The cabin is an interior fit-out inside the sling and can be replaced independently of the machinery.

How long does it take?

Typically two to four days per car, during which the lift is out of service.

Does a heavier finish affect capacity?

Yes. Cabin weight counts against rated load, so a heavy stone finish can cost a passenger or two. We check this before confirming.

Should we do the fixtures at the same time?

Yes. A refurbished cabin with old buttons and a dated indicator looks worse than leaving both alone.

Also supplied

Other components we stock and fit.

Supplied for lifts we maintain and for lifts we do not.
