Panel types
COP, LOP and HOP each do a different job, and accessible sets change the specification of all three.
What it does
Beyond calling the car, fixtures carry the accessibility obligations: braille, reachable button height, audible announcement and clear position indication.
Specification
Accessible sets place the lowest button at around 900 mm with braille alongside, and add audible floor announcement. Worth specifying by default rather than on request.
When to replace
Fixtures fail from use rather than age, so replacement is usually driven by appearance and accessibility rather than by a fault.
Micro-switch wear. It is the most common complaint occupants actually raise.
Cosmetic but conspicuous. Nothing dates a lift faster than a half-lit floor indicator.
An accessibility gap. Retrofitting a compliant COP is straightforward and inexpensive.
New panels beside old fixtures look worse than leaving both. Do them together.
Ordering
Photographs of the nameplate save days. Most delays come from identifying the wrong variant, not from supply.
Common questions
COP panel price depends on finish, button type and display; LOP panel price is usually lower since it carries fewer functions. Accessible sets with braille and an audible announcer sit a little above the standard price. Send the number of stops and a photo of the existing panel for an exact figure.
