How the load arrives — hand, trolley or forklift — decides the type long before rated load does.
Goods lift specialists
Hand trolley, pallet truck or forklift each load a platform differently, and getting that wrong is the most common reason a goods lift fails early. We ask the loading question at survey stage every time, on warehouses, retail back-of-house and hospitality service lifts across Delhi NCR, and we specify door gear heavy enough to survive daily industrial use rather than the lightest option that passes inspection. It is a small discipline that keeps goods lifts running long after the cheaper alternative would have needed its first repair.
Getting it right
Rated load is the last of these, not the first. Most goods lift complaints come from getting the loading method wrong, not the tonnage.
Not the heaviest — the largest. Platform dimensions are usually set by an awkward item rather than a heavy one.
Hand trolley, pallet truck or forklift. A forklift driving onto the platform imposes a concentrated wheel load several times the average.
If an operator rides with the load, the lift must be built and certified as a goods-passenger lift. This is a legal distinction, not a preference.
Levelling accuracy has to be good enough that a loaded pallet truck can be pushed on and off without a lip to climb.
Clear door width, not platform size, is what stops a wide item getting in. Collapsible or vertical bi-parting doors give the widest opening.
Bump rails, chequered plate flooring and protected wall panels are cheaper than repairing a damaged car every year.

Goods lift price is set by rated load, platform size, door type and travel height, in that order — not by rated load alone. A hand-loaded platform for a small retail back-of-house costs well below a forklift-rated platform for a warehouse. Tell us the heaviest and largest item, how it arrives and the floors served, and we return a figure against your actual loading, not a catalogue rate.
Only if it is specified and certified as a goods-passenger lift. A goods-only lift must be marked accordingly and used for loads alone. We ask this question at survey because it changes the build.
Tell us at survey. Forklift loading imposes concentrated wheel loads and needs a reinforced platform, heavier guide rails and usually a hydraulic drive.
Hydraulic below about 15 m of travel with heavy loads, because all the load goes into the pit. Traction above that, or where cycle frequency is high enough that oil temperature would become a limit.
Wider than you think. Clear door width is what stops an oversized item, and it is the dimension nobody can change after the shaft is built.
More often than a passenger lift in the same building. Monthly for continuous duty, with door gear, guide shoes and platform condition checked every visit.
